Down by The River (again)

16 Apr

This weekend saw us staying close to home again, the weather although fairly clear and bright was threatening rain!……

AN HDR to start, I haven’t felt the need to HDR for ages now, but this scene just lent itself somehow?…. Plenty of Yellow for impact but begging for saturation!……..:)

The river was running quite fast too, murky brown and not at all inviting, don’t you know we have an official drought?……….

Impressive Willow tree ‘eh?…..:))

A little further along the bank Chrissy spotted an “Orange Tip”… quite lucky really ’cause they don’t stay still for long if the sun is out!…..

The clouds moved a little and he opened up!…….

…..but he was soon off, he didn’t fly far though and found lunch just too tempting…….;)

So that’s another couple of miles walked and another card full of images to wade through……..

Have a Good Week!……………

Oh, wow. I’m going to have to figure out how to get to the UK in a hurry if I’m ever dying, because I would LOVE for the last thing I see to be that willow tree. That shot looking up through the branches is *such* a gorgeous shot. In fact I think I’ll just hurry up and fly out now. Then when I get to the willow tree, I’ll just refuse to budge, and eventually die right there under it. Yes, this is a good plan.

      April 18, 2012 at 5:29 pm

Hi Helen, To be honest the butterfly pics were easy, It was a little cool and the hard part is to spot them in the first place, but they tend to be still until the sun comes out…… I was standing off by about ten feet with a 300mm lens and X2 teleconvertor…:)
Chrissy was using a 150mm Macro if you want real close ups!….:) http://networkedblogs.com/wxtQf

Awesome shots! Im just learning photography, when is the best time to shoot in HDR? I do have the option on my camera, but haven’t used it yet. What’s the advantages of HDR?

    • Andy

      April 18, 2012 at 7:27 pm

Hi Jennifer, Thanks for your comment!….. Hard to answer your query in a line, but, shoot HDR whenever you know that part of the scene will be “blown out” IE bright sky, or there will be dark shadows IE under trees or bushes in a landscape, the advantage (for me) of HDR is that you can take multiple frames at different exposures and then merge those frames to capture the scene as you saw it rather than as the camera sees it!….:)

      Happy snapping!….:)

Great post, and congratulations on your “fresh-pressed” accomplishment! That isn’t likely to happen for me, as I post video guitar licks/solos and songs with tablature. Doesn’t have the same kind of broad appeal. Once again, congrats!

Your photographs are beautiful and really capture the Shropshire countryside. Just to make sure you know the Ramblers are collecting information on where public footpaths are blocked, bridges broken etc. They will then contact landowners and make sure they know their responsibility. The photo of the orange tip butterfly is stunning. Congratulations…
