Butterflies & Bees Etc………..

While Flickr is behaving I’m making the most of it!……. most unlike me to post two days running, but I have a little time and I can actually post pictures too!…..:)

Yesterday was one of the few days this year where we didn’t need three layers of clothing, we decided that Pound Wood could be worth a visit as we haven’t been for a while and there is often a wealth of wildlife…………..

The Bees were real busy!….. they have struggled this year with the cold hanging on for so long, It is good to see them around!….:)

The Orange Tips are back as well, these really are manic, you just have to wait for one to settle near you to be able to take a pic, I’m sure they enjoy leading you around if you chase them!…..:)

Then our old friend the Pearl Bordered Fritillary showed up, most obliging too, seemed quite happy to pose for a minute or two!…. really liked that dandelion!…..;)

This is a pic from a  while back now, the Nuthatch!……. at Severn Valley Country Park we’ve found a couple of places where these will be happy to land quite close if you bribe them with a few suet pellets!…. they are quite vocal though!……….hehehe

The last of the snow!……….. YAY!….

……….and the first signs of spring!…. late it might be, but very welcome all the same!………

Have a great weekend!………………;)

Spring is Here!……………

It seems like an age since I was here posting pics, but then with the dismal weather that we’ve had for the last couple of months I have suffered from a lack of inspiration to be honest, the light has failed us on most of the occasions when I’ve had the time and only the recent purchase of a new camera has fired me up again!………

However as the following will hopefully show, spring is most certainly with us even if we haven’t seen the last of the snow!……..

Snow Drops are often the first subjects of a new year (assuming I haven’t been able to get out and take snow-covered fields and frost covered trees!…..)

However It’s not all about Snow Drops!…….;)

All of our local birds are showing fantastic colours now, just about at their best and showing off!…..;)

Long Tailed Tit……….

Nuthatch……….

Siskin……….

Blue Tit……….

……………and as it’s now time to pack that camera and take off out again, I’ll wish you a good week and thank you for taking the time to get this far!…..;)

Atcham & Attingham Park

This post has been a long time coming, our weather has been wet enough to keep me glued to the computer and go out only to work, the camera was getting lonely!…….

Being in need of some shutter action we went to Atcham on saturday, where the River Severn crosses the road, there has been so much rain lately the river was quite high and very dark and moody!………

Attingham Park is only a stones throw away and both of us are National Trust members, it would have been rude not to visit their garden and check out the Bluebells…..;)

& other “Smiley” flowers!…..:)

In the courtyard the Goldfinches were busy too…..

…..and the Blue Tits were having lunch!……….

Even the Orange Tips seemed to be out enjoying our first sight of the sun for a week or more!………

most of our butterflies are much later this year, we don’t normally know which way to point the camera in early May, but it is still very quiet out there….:(

Have a good week!………:-)

Down by The River (again)

This weekend saw us staying close to home again, the weather although fairly clear and bright was threatening rain!……

AN HDR to start, I haven’t felt the need to HDR for ages now, but this scene just lent itself somehow?…. Plenty of Yellow for impact but begging for saturation!……..:)

The river was running quite fast too, murky brown and not at all inviting, don’t you know we have an official drought?……….

Impressive Willow tree ‘eh?…..:))

A little further along the bank Chrissy spotted an “Orange Tip”… quite lucky really ’cause they don’t stay still for long if the sun is out!…..

The clouds moved a little and he opened up!…….

…..but he was soon off, he didn’t fly far though and found lunch just too tempting…….;)

So that’s another couple of miles walked and another card full of images to wade through……..

Have a Good Week!……………

A Walk by The River

Continuing on the theme of “tourists in our own town” we though it wise to stay close to home today ’cause we just knew it was going to rain……. just a wander down the river then?…….:)

Walk through chestnut Coppice and cross the old railway line……….

……and the river widens out just before reaching Bridgnorth, It’s quite shallow here and the level is a little lower than normal at the moment…. The mandarins don’t mind though, there are more important things to think about right now!……..

The Goosander wasn’t impressed with us though and being quite shy he left in a hurry…..

As we walked downstream, the cormorants arrived a little further up-stream!….

In all ten arrived, as we walked back towards them Chrissy though we’d better take a few shots while we could and although by this time It was raining we took it in turns to hold the brolly!….:)

Eventually we were right opposite the tree they had taken over and seemed happy to sit there all day, I can only assume they’d already eaten……….

After an hour or so we decided that we were cold enough to try a coffee with a drop of rum in it so made our way back, took the opportunity to snap a Buzzard too!…..:))

…….and spotted a reason to pop back here soon!…… Bluebell season is almost upon us and there are signs all around the coppice, should be a good show later in the month……..:)

Happy Easter…………..

Benthall Hall

Ok, I know I said I wouldn’t be posting more Snowdrops but today we popped out to Benthall Hall which is only a few miles away from where we live, the idea was that there is an impressive display of Crocuses (Croci?)during early spring, Well I can tell you that there is also an impressive display of our friend the snowdrop too!…….:)

There were of course Croci too, but we weren’t the only ones enjoying their appearance!……

This feller is busy distributing pollen!…..:)

Couldn’t resist the shadow shot!…..;0

And as a bonus on the way home we spotted a buzzard out for a walk in the stubble field, obviously not warm enough for any rising air today!……:(

Happy Weekend everybody………………..

Dudmaston Hall Snowdrop Walk 2 – 2012

Having visited Dudmaston last week and seeing the Snowdrops promising a good show, we decided to visit again this week………

The improving weather had brought them on and were just about showing at their best!……

However, last week we’d spoken to another local photographer and she’d metioned the stream below the old mill pond so a slight diversion was in order!…. Chrissy was off through the weeds and the brambles!….. Well worth the effort as it turned out though, because in small clearing by the stream was a carpet of the best Snowdrops we’d ever seen!…….:)

(any of these pics are worth a click to see full size……)

I can’t imagine I’ll better these pics this year, so I reckon that’s the Snowdrops for another 12 months!…… Blue Bells next?……

Happy Monday!……:-)
