Nothing since May?………

As the title would suggest there’s been no action here since May!………:(

That’s not to say that the camera hasn’t seen some action though!……:)   I’m just thinking it’s time for a catch up, Due to this being “What Andy Sees” there will be few words and many pictures!……;)

I’ve been trying to improve my ‘in flight’ shots of late with a view to one day actually capturing a Dragonfly in flight, however it has achieved nothing other than capturing some decent bee shots…….

(Bet you never realised Bees cross their legs when they fly?….. I just cross my fingers!….)

Then in June we went on holiday, Skiathos again I’m afraid, so those of you who have been here before may wish to look away for the next few pics!….:)

The day we arrived we decided to take a trip around to the west & north of the island just to chill after the journey, we were a little surprised to have Mandraki to ourselves for the evening!…..

The following are a taste of some of the views available……..
Ag Alexandros

Ligaries Beach

Kehria Beach

Kehria Taverna

Kehria Sunset

Vromolimnos

Evangelistria Monestry

Sailing from Skiathos New Port

Back on the flying theme, Swallows and Swifts were regularly flying over our accommodation feeding and dipping the pool…….

Upon our return to normality (work etc.) we noticed that the “Flying Legends” air show was on and not having made the effort for a few years we decided to go and enjoy one of the best air shows of the year!……

Good job we did too!….. this was to be the last show from Stephen Grey of The Fighter Collection, a legend himself, he once again displayed the Bearcat with his customary style and vigour!….. just think he’s 75 this year!…..;)

How many shows can claim to have 12 Spitfires on display?…….:)

…and three P51 mustangs?………

..and a Corsair?…….

…and an Avenger!………

that’ll do, the hair is standing up on the back of my neck just looking through those again!…..LOL

However the following weekend was to be The RIAT Show at Fairford, I’d never been and Chrissy hadn’t been for years, the weather promised to be good, so there was no excuse!…….

The Red Arrows of course, but this was different, flying in formation with BA’s new Dreamliner……

Then the Dreamliner backed out of the rest of the display!………..

And Eurofighter Typhoon………

And F16……..

The following weekend was time for the Shrewsbury Flower Show, noted for it’s impressive Firework Display at the end of both days….. they didn’t disappoint!……;)

That just about wraps it up, we’re now bang up to date with these Heron shots from Venus Pool last week, I’ve done a couple of weeks of night shifts due to there being loads of shut down repairs to be finished, so I did have the opportunity to have a an hour or so during the days………..;)

He leaps into the air and grabs great wings full of lift, note the amount of water also in the air!….

The next beat….

…….and the next, there’s still drops of water airborne!…..

Landing………. that looks like hard work!…..;)

Have a good week…… Health & Happiness to anyone who’s managed to get this far!…………..:)

Butterflies & Bees Etc………..

While Flickr is behaving I’m making the most of it!……. most unlike me to post two days running, but I have a little time and I can actually post pictures too!…..:)

Yesterday was one of the few days this year where we didn’t need three layers of clothing, we decided that Pound Wood could be worth a visit as we haven’t been for a while and there is often a wealth of wildlife…………..

The Bees were real busy!….. they have struggled this year with the cold hanging on for so long, It is good to see them around!….:)

The Orange Tips are back as well, these really are manic, you just have to wait for one to settle near you to be able to take a pic, I’m sure they enjoy leading you around if you chase them!…..:)

Then our old friend the Pearl Bordered Fritillary showed up, most obliging too, seemed quite happy to pose for a minute or two!…. really liked that dandelion!…..;)

This is a pic from a  while back now, the Nuthatch!……. at Severn Valley Country Park we’ve found a couple of places where these will be happy to land quite close if you bribe them with a few suet pellets!…. they are quite vocal though!……….hehehe

The last of the snow!……….. YAY!….

……….and the first signs of spring!…. late it might be, but very welcome all the same!………

Have a great weekend!………………;)

Hope the wait was worth it?….;)

It’s been another of those months, all work and very little play, very little decent weather too which has really slowed down the rate of shutter actuations!…….:(

The new camera appears to be working a treat however and with a few thousand shots taken I think I have a handle on it too!…….

Chrissy wanted to take a trip out to Haughmond hill over the weekend and It really is a good spot for bluebells, we did find some good scenes but with Flicker slowing down again I just haven’t had time to waste waiting for the larger files to load!….:(  Here then we have the first of my butterfly pics this year (also from Haughmond)

Green Veined White

Orange Tip

……..after leaving Haughmond we popped into Attingham Park to catch up due to not visiting for quite a while now….. saw this scene on the River and couldn’t resist a shot or two!……

……….an old frame this from Cannock Chase, a Yellow Hammer…. wow has it been that long since I posted in here?….:(

………….and Goodnight from me!………………:-)

Have a great weekend, if you’re in the UK have a great Bank Holiday!………….

Dudmaston Wood, Dragonflies

Taking a walk in Dudmaston Woods yesterday, just ambling around really, snapping at whatever appeared……

We had seen one or two Dragonflies flitting about and came upon a tree full of Migrant Hawkers!…..:)

We both thanked them for posing for us for so long too!…..LOL

A walk in Pound Wood………..

Pound Wood, Wyre Forest.

We live quite close to what is left of the Wyre Forest and because it is a haven to all sorts of wildlife (and trees LOL) it has become a magnet for us at various times of the year as different species emerge!…..

I find it hard to ignore water be it a babbling brook or a raging sea!…….;)

Damselflies dart about or bask in the sunshine………..

Broad Bodied Chasers?….. keeping an eye open for the next meal….

Skippers flit around but if you keep still a while they will settle and pose for you………

an exciting spot!… a Golden Ringed, the first we’ve seen in the UK!….;)

another broad bodied, an elderly female I think!…..

Chrissy spotted this Hawker in perfect light, but how effective is that camouflage?…….

Gate Keeper, cute name, cute looker too!……;)

WordPress are telling me that I am running out of space and are asking if I’d like to buy a space upgrade, this will likely result in me giving up this blog sometime soon and I would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have posted comments and “liked” my posts/pics, you really have made it a worthwhile experience!……. X

Skiathos Wildlife 2012

Ok I know I’ve been a little slow with this one!….. Over a month now since we came back, but I have been real busy at work and just can’t devote the time I’d like to being here posting pics and catching up with like minded folks!…….

However this is the wildlife of Skiathos as we see it!………….;)

This was a crazy half hour, they were dipping in the pool at warp factor 13!…… they were so fast in fact that I resorted to focusing manually and waiting for a “pass”….. maybe they don’t mind the chlorine?……:)

I find it hard to believe the light was that good after the dark, dismal wet days we’ve had for the last month (6 weeks!)….. but here’s to our next visit!……….

Happy Weekend to you!…………;)

A Walk in Pound Wood, Wyre Forest.

It’s been a while since I posted here, work has kept me busy and our weather hasn’t been too kind to photographers either!…..:)

Pound Wood in the Wyre Forest has been known for some time as a refuge for certain species of butterfly that aren’t all that common…….. we thought it about time we revisited…………

What an absolutely gorgeous day?…..:)

Fritillaries everywhere!…. but they don’t sit for long!…… we followed them around for a while then thought better of it and sat waiting for them to come to us!…….:)

Brimstones too were flitting around, they also rarely land for more than a couple of seconds, and when they do of course they do look exactly like the leaf they land on, there’s little hope of spotting these unless you see them land!……

and one of our favourites, not particularly impressive, but quite a rarity, the Wood White!

Happy weekend everyone, long may our dry, sunny spell continue!……..:))
