Butterflies & Bees Etc………..

While Flickr is behaving I’m making the most of it!……. most unlike me to post two days running, but I have a little time and I can actually post pictures too!…..:)

Yesterday was one of the few days this year where we didn’t need three layers of clothing, we decided that Pound Wood could be worth a visit as we haven’t been for a while and there is often a wealth of wildlife…………..

The Bees were real busy!….. they have struggled this year with the cold hanging on for so long, It is good to see them around!….:)

The Orange Tips are back as well, these really are manic, you just have to wait for one to settle near you to be able to take a pic, I’m sure they enjoy leading you around if you chase them!…..:)

Then our old friend the Pearl Bordered Fritillary showed up, most obliging too, seemed quite happy to pose for a minute or two!…. really liked that dandelion!…..;)

This is a pic from a  while back now, the Nuthatch!……. at Severn Valley Country Park we’ve found a couple of places where these will be happy to land quite close if you bribe them with a few suet pellets!…. they are quite vocal though!……….hehehe

The last of the snow!……….. YAY!….

……….and the first signs of spring!…. late it might be, but very welcome all the same!………

Hope the wait was worth it?….;)

It’s been another of those months, all work and very little play, very little decent weather too which has really slowed down the rate of shutter actuations!…….:(

The new camera appears to be working a treat however and with a few thousand shots taken I think I have a handle on it too!…….

Chrissy wanted to take a trip out to Haughmond hill over the weekend and It really is a good spot for bluebells, we did find some good scenes but with Flicker slowing down again I just haven’t had time to waste waiting for the larger files to load!….:(  Here then we have the first of my butterfly pics this year (also from Haughmond)

Spring is Here!……………

It seems like an age since I was here posting pics, but then with the dismal weather that we’ve had for the last couple of months I have suffered from a lack of inspiration to be honest, the light has failed us on most of the occasions when I’ve had the time and only the recent purchase of a new camera has fired me up again!………

However as the following will hopefully show, spring is most certainly with us even if we haven’t seen the last of the snow!……..

Snow Drops are often the first subjects of a new year (assuming I haven’t been able to get out and take snow-covered fields and frost covered trees!…..)

However It’s not all about Snow Drops!…….;)

All of our local birds are showing fantastic colours now, just about at their best and showing off!…..;)

Cannock Chase Bird Watching

We’ve been here before, but it’s generally worth the trip due to the number of birds that congregate for a feed!…….

The Blue Tits are always posers, lovely colours and in good condition too!…..

The Nuthatches were busy too and for some reason I always struggled to capture a decent shot, either my technique is improving or they’re slowing down!……;)

Something different for us this visit too, Fieldfares flew into a couple of trees near us and the cameras were swung around!……;)

…..and aerobics too?……:)

Closely following the Fieldfare was a flock of Waxwings!…… Neither of us had seen Waxwings before and the sight was a real bonus!…….

We don’t often venture too far from home at this time of year and a round trip of 90 something miles when there’s every chance of snow has to be considered, this day was well worth the effort!…………

Aqualate Mere

We were pointed in the direction of Aqualate Mere by facebook friend and having done a little research thought it would be worth an hour or two!……

How right we were!…………..

This is a frame looking from the hide out across the lake,

………..But we were really here because we’d heard about a “Starling Murmuration”!…….

Actually, should that be a Startling murmuration, most who witness this event are in awe at the sight and sound!……….:)

….and as a bonus, on leaving the hide the moon popped up for us too!……..:)

Bridgnorth Rugby Club Fireworks

Last night saw the fireworks at Bridgnorth Rugby Club which has become an annual ‘not to be missed’ event!….. The weather held out as well after raining late in the day we really did think we were going to be washed out of another photo opportunity!……:)

A new band this year….. Midset Buka!…… playing cool covers for a few hours, can’t be easy playing strings in those temperatures!…….LOL

There were hundreds of people early this year, maybe they remembered the parking fiasco from previous years?……..;)

………and a team stoking the fires!………

Then the main event…. it didn’t disappoint, in fact it was that good it was harder this year to seperate and photograph them!………

That just leaves time for me to say thank you to Chrissy for her company yet again this weekend and wish everybody a good week ahead!……..;)

 

It’s Autumn again!……….

It Is deffinately autumn again!…….. we decided today to take a walk down at Dudmaston Woods, We’d been watching the colour of the trees changing for a week or two, but now is the time to take those pics of wonderful colours!…. I have to admit that I am not a fan of autumn, but this is only because it it is the onset of winter!…..:)

I have to admit now that this is somewhat a test!…… all these images have been linked to my new account at Flicker in an effort to be able to maintain this blog without paying a fortune to upload decent image files, if it works out then I’ll be around a while longer!…….:)

P.S. I’ve taken a peek at the preview and I reckon the only difference is that you can’t click to see the full size image, with this page getting about 4 clicks a week I don’t think that’ll be too much of a problem!…….LOL
